Field Journal #1: why we are building Montered

What Montered is, where the prototype stands and what we are testing this season with hunting dogs and on farms in Spain.

Thanks for signing up. This is the first issue of the Field Journal: one email a month at most, and only when there’s something worth telling.

What Montered is

It’s a radio system that tells you where your dogs, your hunting stands or the water on your farm are when your phone says “no service”. The device knows where it is by GPS and sends it by radio, kilometres away, to a pocket receiver or an antenna on the farm. Your phone is just the screen. No SIM card. No fees, ever.

Where we are

  • Done: the prototype works on the bench. Collar, receiver, phone app and server. The position travels encrypted.
  • Now: this season we’re taking it out on real hunts in Spain, including monterías (big driven hunts for wild boar and deer, with dozens of hunters and several packs of dogs), and to a cattle farm on open range. We’ll measure real range and battery life, and write down everything that fails.
  • Next: in spring 2027, the final version and the launch. People on the waitlist will be the first to know.

What we need from you

If you run hunts, keep a pack of hunting dogs or graze livestock on open land and you’d like to try it, reply to this email or message us on WhatsApp. An afternoon with you in the field helps us more than anything else.

In the next issue: the first range measurements, with a map.
